Alligators won the marketing game last week

Last week, I attended the Southern Builders show at the Gaylord Palms Convention Center in Orlando, and while there were plenty of good products and interesting people to meet, what truly left an impression on me were the alligators and turtles in the center atrium. As a marketer, I couldn’t help but reflect on the fact that amidst all the flashy marketing materials and online campaigns I had seen at the trade show, it was the real-life gators that captured my attention and lingered in my memory.

This experience was a powerful reminder that as marketers, we’re not just competing with our direct competitors, but also with the countless distractions that vie for our customers’ attention every day. From text messages and social media notifications to unexpected encounters with fascinating creatures, there are endless obstacles that can derail our marketing efforts.

So what can we do to break through the noise and stand out in a crowded marketplace? The key, I believe, is to focus on crafting authentic and relatable messages that resonate with our target audience. This requires a lot of hard work, including regularly revisiting and refreshing our marketing materials, analyzing customer data to inform our content strategy, and continually seeking out new opportunities to engage with our customers.

It’s not an easy task, but it’s a necessary one if we want to succeed in today’s hyper-competitive marketing landscape. By refusing to let the gators win and committing ourselves to the hard work of effective marketing, we can set ourselves apart from the competition and create lasting connections with our customers.
